Police arrest 2 inmates in Ind. slaying

A stolen car, a warm engine and some spent shell casings led to arrests Tuesday in the death of a 46-year-old man found shot on the Monon Trail in Indiana earlier this year.
But police didn't have to go far. The suspects were already in jail on charges involving another death.
Indianapolis police say William O'Brien, 20, and Terrell Robey, 17, were responsible for a crime spree involving a carjacking and two slayings during a two-week period in October.
Detective Todd Lappin said the spree began Oct. 18, when O'Brien and Robey, one of them holding a small black handgun, ordered a couple out of their Honda Accord at an Eastside tavern and sped away.
Two days later, Tyrone Davidson was found fatally shot about 11 p.m. on the Monon Trail just south of 16th Street.
Police didn't suspect O'Brien and Robey until the Oct. 30 shooting of Jesse Austin, who was found fatally wounded in a house, where he had been playing cards, drinking and arguing with O'Brien and Robey, according to witnesses.
Police found O'Brien and Robey the next day, court records said.
Police believe Davidson was using the trail as a shortcut when he was shot. Lappin said O'Brien and Robey apparently were, too, but instead crashed their car. Lappin said Davidson was shot because he had no money on him.
