Three correction officers are facing misdemeanor charges in connection with an incident that left an inmate's jaw broken. A Rensselaer County, N.Y., grand jury on Monday directed the district attorney to file the charges. Prosecutor Ken Bruno said the three would be arraigned in Troy City Court. Daniel Ryan, 29, and Thomas Sawyer, 31, both of Troy, are accused of third-degree assault, sixth-degree conspiracy and official misconduct, according to Bruno. David Rohrmiller, 31, also of Troy, is charged with third-degree attempted assault, conspiracy and official misconduct. The three correction officers were arrested and suspended without pay in May following an investigation into a March 23 incident at the county jail. Ryan and Sawyer are accused of repeatedly punching inmate Daniel McDonald, fracturing his jaw. Rohrmiller is charged with assisting the other two. If convicted, each could face up to a year in jail. |
