West Des Moines, October 15, 2008: In less than 18 months, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) has deployed ATG’s Electronic Medical Records and Pharmacy Administration systems to all 114 Bureau institutions nationwide serving over 165,000 inmates.

All doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses, lab assistants, pharmacists and pharmacist’ technicians located at 92 different sites were trained and were provided support staff to answer questions during the transition. Prescription information from legacy systems was migrated, and new interfaces to robotic prescription dispensing systems were implemented in this period. A real-time interface to the Bureau’s case records system, Sentry, was implemented to ensure that the medical systems had current inmate demographic information and for automatically rescheduling appointments as inmates are transferred between institutions.

Commercial health records software is designed to serve public hospitals and private medical clinics and does not adapt well to serve needs of correctional institutions. ATG’s Electronic Medical Records and Pharmacy Administration solutions are particularly successful in correctional environments because they are structurally designed to support the unique correctional facility security requirements and interface with other systems for inmate demographic, housing and movement information.

ATG’s Electronic Medical Records and Pharmacy Administration software are components of ATG’s Offender Management Suite. Components of the suite enable correctional agencies to effectively manage the offender population. The suite is comprised of:
  • Electronic Medical Records

  • Pharmacy Administration

  • Inmate Trust Fund Accounting

  • Commissary Operations

  • Case Management

  • Critical Incident & Investigation System

  • Inmate Secure Email/Inmate Telephone System

  • Digital Phone Recorder

  • Food Service Administration

  • Intelligence System
