Televisit Corrections allows for instant and secure video conferencing between prison inmates and county agency representatives.

Montreal, Canada, March 2, 2009 – Primonics (2006) Inc, a leading software developer and systems integrator, today announced that the Department of Corrections for Westchester County in New York State has successfully deployed Primonics’ Televisit Corrections system.

Westchester County Department of Corrections selected Primonics’ Televisit system to reduce the need for physical visits to the jail. This provided a way to reduce costs, enhance productivity and improve safety at the prison facility.

Commissioner Joseph Spano said, “Its all part of Westchester County’s efforts to use technology to save money, improve efficiency and security.” County representatives, such as bail expeditors and probation officers, are now conducting business from their main offices and no longer have to physically visit the jail. Consequently, they benefit by reducing their transportation cost and engineering productivity gains. Moreover, the reduction of prisoner movement throughout our prison complex will greatly enhance security.”

Dave Hinse, VP for Primonics said, “Our hardened terminals and secure network allow bail expeditors, probation officers, parole officers, attorneys to securely communicate with an inmate directly in their housing unit from anywhere an internet connection is available. Our open architecture allows the terminals to not only provide video visitation but also acts as an electronic billboard that provides inmates controlled access to information such as court appearances, sick calls as well as provides a way to order commissary.” For information about the Westchester County System please call Sgt. Donald S. Smith Tech services at 914 231 1435 or dds4@westchestergov.com.

The Westchester Department of Correction constructed a 528 bed new generation style Jail Tower in 1992 in part due to the exploding inmate population of the late 1980’s. The Department also replaced the 1916 Penitentiary in 2004 with a state of the art new generation style Penitentiary. The correctional complex in Valhalla, which was renamed to honor Commissioner Norwood E. Jackson following his untimely death in 1995, now has a capacity to hold over 1,800 pretrial detainees and sentenced prisoners. This is an ACA accredited facility serving Westchester County New York.
