Birmingham, AL - NaphCare, Inc., a Birmingham, Ala., based independent provider of comprehensive correctional health care and corrections-based technology services, has reached a new agreement with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department (SCSD) to manage medical services at the House of Corrections, effective immediately.
“We are excited to begin a partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and in the State of Massachusetts,” said NaphCare CEO James S. McLane. “This is an opportunity for NaphCare to utilize our experience, our system and our philosophy of providing the highest quality inmate healthcare to serve the county.”
SCSD and NaphCare entered into the emergency 18 month contract beginning March 12, 2012, at the direct request of Sheriff Andrea Cabral and the SCSD executive leadership team, due to termination of the existing contract with another provider. The current agreement will continue through September 2013.
Sheriff Cabral commented on the selection of NaphCare as an emergency partner. “SCSD is the largest Sheriff’s Office in the Northeast. We take our responsibility to provide quality inmate medical and mental health care very seriously. We needed qualified medical professionals who could execute a smooth transition with no gap in services and wanted a provider as committed to quality inmate health care as we are. We chose NaphCare.”
“We are looking forward to fully exploring the benefits of a customized electronic medical records system” she continued, “It is a tremendous tool for the risk management of all inmate medical and mental health issues.”
With this agreement, NaphCare will partner with its third Massachusetts county sheriff’s department as the comprehensive medical partner and its fifth contract within the state of Massachusetts. The other current partners are Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Worcester County Sheriff’s Department, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Medical Center facility in Devens.
As a part of the agreement with SCSD, NaphCare will immediately input the proprietary TechCare system, a customizable EMR solution. The TechCareTM system will offer SCSD’s jail division a unique clinical information tool to track, organize, share and create immediate benefits to serve the approximately 2,000 inmates entrusted to SCSD’s custody.
“In the midst of the evolving correctional healthcare marketplace, NaphCare is proud to work alongside SCSD to create a proactive and effective healthcare system within the House of Corrections,” said NaphCare CEO James S. McLane. “Utilizing our professional leadership team and the tools of our TechCareTM system, we will offer Suffolk County a higher level of risk management to help them manage their inmate patient population.”
The TechCareTM Clinical Operations System contains a complete electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic medication administration record (eMAR) built into the software, offering Suffolk County a proven risk management, auditing, patient care and data collection solution.
The system will create a link with the Suffolk County Jail Management System (JMS), downloading information and sharing between the security team, lab and radiology services, hospitals and other specialty providers.
