NaphCare, Inc., awarded new TechCareTM contract with Maricopa County (AZ)

Birmingham, AL - NaphCare, Inc., a Birmingham, AL, based independent provider of comprehensive correctional health care and corrections-based technology services, has been awarded a 5-year agreement with Maricopa County to input the TechCareTM Clinical Operations System at the county’s six detention facilities in Phoenix, AZ.

Maricopa County and NaphCare will sign the agreement March 28, 2012, with the contract period beginning April 1, 2012. The award was approved by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors at the March 14th meeting. The TechCareTM system will offer Maricopa County’s CHS division and its medical team a customized clinical information tool to track, organize, share and create immediate benefits to serve the approximately 7,500 inmates entrusted to Maricopa County’s custody.

Mr. Tom Tegeler, Director of Maricopa County’s Correctional Health Services (CHS), describes the TechCareTM system “as a solution that Maricopa County can utilize for many years to come. NaphCare’s combination of clinical experience and information technology design team has created a system we can customize for our needs,” he said. “It is a tremendous tool for CHS’ medical and mental health professionals to provide more efficient medical, mental health, medication management and reporting ability for our patients.”

TechCareTM will assist Maricopa County in accomplishing a few of the following goals:
  1. HIPAA compliant system
  2. Improve quality of medical care for inmates
  3. Increase access to information for all health providers
  4. Ensure medical information is manageable and easily accessible
  5. Re-earning accreditation of medical facilities
  6. Decrease legal liability of the jail and its providers

Maricopa County Correctional Health medical staff processes approximately 1,700 health assessments, 8,700 Health Needs Requests and 40,000 sick call visits per month. Central Intake screens nearly 105,000 individuals annually making it one of the busiest booking detention locations in the country. Utilizing the TechCareTM system, Maricopa County staff will have direct access to data across the entire Maricopa County jail operations. Patient history, medication information and key patient data will be accessible at the touch of a button, creating care and cost efficiencies throughout the Maricopa County system.

To reduce future lawsuits against Maricopa County, use of the TechCareTM system will allow for the documentation of detailed and accurate medical information. It will enable healthcare providers to demonstrate improved quality of care for the nearly 105,000 inmate patients that Maricopa County manages each year.

The TechCareTM Clinical Operations System contains a complete electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic medication administration record (eMAR) built into the software system, offering offer Maricopa County’s CHS division a tremendous benefit for clinical staff, patient care and data collection.

The system will create a link with the current Maricopa County Jail Management System, downloading information and sharing between the pharmacy provider, lab and radiology service, hospitals and other specialty providers.
