More than 1,000 to be monitored with GPS tracking

BOULDER, Colo.— The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has selected BI Incorporated for a range of location monitoring systems, including more than 1,000 devices for house arrest and GPS tracking, to support supervision of pretrial adult and juvenile offenders as well as those released on probation. The contract is multi-year with possible extensions.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety focuses citizen and legislative attention on law enforcement and public safety issues, such as the supervision of offenders in prison or on community corrections, drinking and driving, underage access to alcohol and tobacco, the proper use of child safety seats, crime prevention and preparation for natural disasters.

“We are pleased to be selected for this contract,” said Ann Schlarb, Divisional Vice President, BI Incorporated. “Our proven offender monitoring systems will support supervising officers with excellent details about compliance to conditions of release, such as schedules, curfews, or actual locations of the individual as they reside in the community.”

Under this agreement, BI will supply the following products and monitoring services:
  • BI ExacuTrack® One offers location monitoring capabilities using GPS tracking. This system allows the department to apply a level of GPS tracking – from near real-time to less frequent data uploads – that matches the individual’s risk while they move about the community. This system includes a portable tracking unit that relies on available GPS data and other location positioning technologies.
  • HomeGuard® 200 and HomeGuard 206, systems that monitor schedules and curfews via radio frequency and cellular technologies, respectively.
  • BI TotalAccess® software for supervising officers to access and update offender data through a secure website.
  • BI Monitoring Operations, BI’s 24/7 national monitoring center, which offers technical and customer support.
