The State of Montana Department of Corrections, under their previous inmate phone provider were receiving numerous complaints from inmate families about the high cost of collect phone calls from offenders. Gary Willems, contracts manager for the DOC said, "This provides a fairer and cheaper phone service for inmate families". On average, the price of a 30-minute long-distance call to anywhere in the continental United States will be $8.75, plus applicable taxes. This rate is significantly lower that the $31.54 cost under the old system.

PCS' state-wide, easy to use inmate telephone solution for the DOC replaces an outdated tape system for recording inmate calls with a digital system, and permits officials to block calls to certain phone numbers. Willems said the latter feature is an important safety feature, particularly for crime victims. The phone system, which includes all new equipment including phones used by inmates, is provided at no cost to the State.
