Two. First time they are usually given a break. The second time they want rehab only to get out of going to prison. Prisons have rehab for inmates. They can get rehab in prison. |
| I would think that would all depend on if they were offerred rehab the 1st 2 times. Do you think that it is fair to offer it to some and not to others? Who determines if the Judge is showing favorites? | |
| If the past and present reforms were properly in place in this country. There would 'not' be such a problem . The rehab programs really stink and need to be address in handling this serious problem of drugs in our society. Start building more jails and prisons, your going to need them. Over (5)million inmates will be in the correctional system by the year 2010. That would make that larger then the entire United States armed forces combined. Think about it, duh. | |
| I currently work closely with the rehab efforts for incarcerated offenders who are substance abusers. On many days, I feel like the laws in the U.S. should be more stringent for drug offenders. If the U.S. laws on drugs were as tough as other countries, some specific deterance might be provided. Maybe a few executions would stim the tide. If nothing else, it would provide an indefinite deterance for the offender. However, I think prison sentences for drug offenders provide very little deterance, insufficient rehab services, and generally lend to overcrowding. There has to be a better solution; extreme or not. | |

The politicians have brainwashed the public for so long that the point of drug use and prison terms is not even the issue. Most people should know that it costs approximated $30,000 to $40,000 dollars every year to house, feed, educate, rehabilitate, etc., inmates. Then, if they have a medical problem, the cost can run into millions of dollars. Wouldn't it make more sense to spend a heck of a lot less money to just rehab them in free society??? Prisons are NOT the place for drug offenders! Community Corrections should be the main avenue of consideration for ALL drug users. I believe each county should foot the bill for their own Community Corrections Centers. I believe if we keep this type of issue in the community, we will end up with better results. |
| I disagree, people that are own drugs don't want to committ crimes, and most often they don't want to be on drugs. executing is not a deterant when you have an illness. And that is what drugs are an illness. | |
| Uh James, people who use drugs are dangerous to others -that is why they are in jail-and NO it would not be better if they rehabbed in free society, because they would go get more drugs. Think James- really hard, but think!!!!!!!!!! | |
