Keefe Group and Sopakco combine efforts towards hurricane disaster relief
|By Keefe Group|
St. Louis, Missouri, September 19, 2008 - Due to the devastating aftermath of hurricane activity, most recently Hurricane Ike, inventory of self-contained products has virtually been depleted to assist with the relief effort. Sopakco, one of the largest suppliers of the U.S. Military and U.S. governmental agencies, such as FEMA, Department of Homeland Security, and similar state agencies, manufactures MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) products, but halted production of all commercial orders to concentrate their efforts towards the hurricane disaster relief.
Due to the exceeding demand of ready-to-eat meals, Sopakco turned to Keefe Group for help. Keefe Group, the nation’s leading supplier of food products, personal care products, electronics, clothing, and shoes to the correctional commissary market, was able to step up and provide 150,000 Brushy Creek® entrée pouch products and 480,000 Fresh Catch® tuna pouch products towards the emergency relief effort.
Because it takes approximately two weeks production turnaround time, Keefe has afforded Sopakco the ability to continue production towards the relief effort without interruption. Keefe’s inventory will be supplying FEMA, National Guard Units, and other local and state agencies, such as Fire and Rescue Units, Police Departments, and Hospitals.
